AADAC is an agency of the Government of Alberta reporting to the Minister of Health and Wellness.
Special Announcement
On May 15, 2008, the Honourable Ron Liepert, Minister of Health and Wellness, announced the formation of a new Alberta Health Services Board (AHSB), effective immediately. The AHSB replaces Alberta’s nine regional health authority boards, the Alberta Mental Health Board (AMHB), the Alberta Cancer Board (ACB), and the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) Board. The new AHSB is responsible for health services delivery for the entire province and reports directly to Minister Liepert. The Minister also announced the creation of three advisory Councils, to advise and report to the AHSB on addictions services, cancer research, and mental health services.
A transitional AHSB, made up of a chair and six members, was appointed by the Minister, who will establish a process to recruit additional members for a permanent 15-member provincial board of directors and CEO. Ken Hughes has been appointed AHSB Interim Chair and Charlotte Robb has been appointed Interim CEO.
